Hello everyone, I'm new to the board and have a question I hope someone can answer.

I have a Galaxy MKII TDI and I have a thats symbol come up on the dashboard. Unfortuanlty I have misplaced my owenrs manual so I have no idea what it means.

The light (icon/symbol) is to the left of the rev counter and looks like a little rev counter with an arrow pointing to what would be about 3000 rpm. Anyone able to help?

Cheers

If its green then its the cruise control light which is

A) a complete rarity since most galaxys dont have them fitted

:) not supposed to be on if you havn't got CC active...

I thought all MK2's (with cruise control) have this ?

Admittedly it tends not to be turned on in the ECU.

Hummmm.... so how do you turn it on then? My CC works as it should but I've not got a light (Which bugs me!)...

we got the light by having the instrument cluster replaced :) :D :D ;) under waranty for a different problem - personally its overated - the indicator is on when the cc is switched on but doesnt care whether its activated or not ...

Pahh what a pile o poo, I can just hardwire that!!!! Maybe the alhambra cluster will care a little more lol

hi there i am new here and must say what a great sight this is, within minutes i had found a post that answered most of the problem that i have. I just need to understand what was written then ill be getting somewhere considering my complete automotive knowledge could be written on the back of a postage stamp, what and where is the micro switch in the o/s door and how is this repaired replaced i love my galaxy and it has taken me to russia and back twice. I have kept it serviced through ford and let them do all thats ever needed to be done but i'am now unemployed through disability and ford are not getting any cheaper so i think this fix i will have to undertake on my own.

Thanx in advance for any help and once again what a great site this is.

Cheers for the advice guys - I'll try it out tonight and see if that works.

PS Where is the best place to buy a replacement handbook?

I am sure that there is another setting that enables this...

I had a comapny 07 plate golf which had the cruise light that came on and off with the cc switch.

And another 57 plate golf identical except that the cruise light only came on when cc was active.

There must be three settings for the lamp....disabled....on/off with switch....and on/off with cc active.

Does anyone have one that works only when cruise is active andf if so what is the value is shown using vagcom ?

What value are we looking at though?

Don't know I have a Mk1 (1998) and there is physically no lamp on the speedo.

However upon further checking of the info. I have on MK2's...possibly later Mk1's....this lamp should only illuminate when cruise control is active, ie when it is controlling the speed of the car.

It would be interesting to know if this works correctly on MK2 Shazza's and Bamma's and whether this is another ford balls up when they have initially programmed the ECU's.

I believe it is in the coding shown in vagcom under 01-Engine then 07-Coding.

The ECUs in question are made by Bosch for VW, it was also VW that made the Galaxys for Ford in the Autoeuropa factory in Portugal, therefore I don't see how Ford could have been involved in programming them?

Ford use their own ECUs for their own engines - C/C is controlled by vacuum pump and a separate C/C module on these, not the ECU.

Perhaps they just upgraded the ECU for the later model so now it's working as it should?

It would be interesting to hear from anyone with a Mk2 2.3 Galaxy with cruise control - does the C/C light work properly in these, i.e. comes on only when the speed is being kept constant not all the time the switch is on?

If so, it must be a quirk of the VW ECU.

I think they may have had some input....otherwise this same argument would apply to the whole vehicle ?

They are bad....but not that bad, surely ?

The only purpose for the lamp would be to indicate that cruise control is active.

Even Ford ( or the company working on behalf of Ford, before we go down that road again ) would get at least the basic operation correct.

To me....this appears to be a classic Ford ( blah de blah ) error.

Either they fit the wrong console ........no cc lamp on speedo.

Or they have fitted the right console but never programmed the ECU to enable the cc lamp.

Or what appears to be the commonest scenario....enabled the cc lamp but done it incorrectly and it works with the cc on/off rather than with active/inactive.

Thinking about this further it could even be a wiring issue.....might look into that idea further !

Good point about the 2.0l & 2.3l petrol engines...i have never noticed if they have this same issue or if the the V6's follow the pattern with the Tdi's.

I think this is definitely worth pursuing further as i would like to see this resolved ( as i think it is definitely incorrect to be working on on/off ).

Also it would be interesting to know if it is possible to get some kind of output from my Mk1 cc that could be linked to a lamp, possibly seperate standalone LED as I don't have one on my speedo ).

Its a very useful feature to have.

ummm

oh look no feet - no deceleration conclusion :

a) brick on the pedal....

B) small pixie holding down pedal

c) cc active

d) oil passing through turbo seals .... oh sh*t

e) both tracks of throttle pot welded to wiper

f) hot air from her in passenger seat holding down pedal

... now I wonder     ;) ;) :) :)

Surely you must agree it is a VW issue otherwise you wouldn't have seen the difference on two different Golfs you were driving?

I've also seen posts on Seat forums where they have the same issues - no C/C light at all or on all the time the switch is on.

Yes it is basically a vw design, however is it known how much of an input Ford had into the programming and customisation of the ECU ?

Now that you mention the Golf....I'll be back !
